So how does the equestrian monetary system work again? They seem to have gotten a system that eliminates poverty.

That, or they eliminated poor people

The Equestrian monetary system is easy enough, everyone has a talent and all they have to do is figure out a way to make money off of said talent. Presumably, there's a market for everything. Even if your cutie mark is incredibly obscene. Especially if your cutie mark is incredibly obscene.

I don't quite see Celestia as being equivalent to the U.S. govt. circa 1980.

Again, George Orwell from "Why Socialists Don't Believe In Fun":

"In the last part, in contrast with disgusting Yahoos, we are shown the noble Houyhnhnms, intelligent horses who are free from human failings. Now these horses, for all their high character and unfailing common sense, are remarkably dreary creatures. Like the inhabitants of various other Utopias, they are chiefly concerned with avoiding fuss. They live uneventful, subdued, 'reasonable' lives, free not only from quarrels, disorder or insecurity of any kind, but also from 'passion', including physical love. They choose their mates on eugenic principles, avoid excesses of affection, and appear somewhat glad to die when their time comes."

Not quite. They do seem to have 'passion'. What definition depends on how raunchy the fanfic is.

Even in the actual series they have passion, else they wouldn't have conflict since they wouldn't give enough of a shit to pursue it.

And that would be incredibly boring.

Equestia is very much an Eutopia not an Utopia, thats one of the main reasons I love the show.

The dictionary states that Eutopia is an antiquated spelling of Utopia. So I have no idea what any of you mean.

If I recall correctly, U-topia is derived from Greek meaning "No place", while Eu-topia is derived from Greek meaning "Good place". Confusion over the two probably stems from the original use of the term "Utopia" to descripe a Eutopia, implying that a Eutopia cannot really exist.

I mistakenly posted in the show thread. I could delete the post, but I'd rather leave my idiotic mistakes up for all to enjoy.

Right. I believe ponies can go completely insane and off the moral compass completely.

This is why I think there is such a thing as a Discordian cult.

The WW1 that happened in Equestria had Russmare, Equestria and Dismany (Technology, Magiteck and Discord Magic, respectively) fighting each other and at the end, the Dismans managed to summon Discord, albeit in a very weak form. In what was formerly Canterlot, and is now known as the Everfree. Russmare nuked Discord. There is now a tiny bit of ash at the root of the biggest tree in the Everfree that causes it to be never again usable by Ponies. And also, the labyrinth and the statues are all war memorials.

Theory, nothing to do with other posts:

Their solar system is not geocentric, and Celestia merely rotates the planet. Food for thought.

Theory: The planet is heliocentric and orbits and rotates of its own momentum. Celestia and Luna don't actually do anything except run the country and otherwise freeload, and occasionally hold the planet in place to piss each other and the ponies off.
